Course Description: "Authentically Green Interiors: Optimizing Nature’s Design" is is a one-hour study of interior landscape’s impact on Human-Centered Sustainable Design. This session will present the most relevant and compelling findings on the environmental impact of plants on people’s physical, psychological and behavioral needs within the built environment.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to quantify the environmental contributions of plants to a building interior. They will gain practical insight into the bottom-line and human-centered benefits to designing with interior plants. At the end of the program, participants will comprehend exactly how the biophilia design factor (the human affinity for natural things) profoundly effects the well being and overall profitability of the modern built environment. Attendees will walk away with concrete suggestions as to how to use this design consideration towards LEED certification.
Learning Outcome 1: Evaluate and measure what our human behaviors and recent science demonstrate regarding biophilic benefits of live interior plants.
Learning Outcome 2: Comprehend and apply what these measurements mean for Green Building Designs.
Learning Outcome 3: Empower to initiate, plan and gain support for biophilic plant programs within the architectural process.

How Taught: The Plant Interscapes registered CES facilitator utilizes a PowerPoint and a glossy, detailed white paper as well as informative hand outs providing an in-depth overview of the specific, measurable environmental contributions of plants to a building interior. The facilitator will review key green interior architecture examples such as the Genzyme Corporate Headquarters, the ADC Telecommunications and the Environment Systems Research Facility. The program concludes with a visual gallery of “Authentically Green Interiors.”

A/V Needed: Electrical power, screen for the PowerPoint, LCD Projector for PowerPoint. (The CES facilitator supplies the laptop).
